Peter R. Wilhelm is the founder and CEO of the Belgian retail developer Wilhelm & Co. With over 30 years of experience in creating award-winning, vibrant mixed-use developments anchored in retail, Wilhelm & Co has long realised that brick and mortar are just one part of creating an area’s most sought after address. New developments are about the people who live, work, shop and relax in them. Since its inception in 1988, the Wilhelm & Co Group has established itself as a significant player in the European retail property market, with more than 1,500,000m2 of retail space, including spaces under development and already established. Wilhelm & Co is a vertically integrated company with a team of 40 employees who cover the full value chain: conception and project development, project and construction management, financing and investment, retail leasing and shopping centers management. Through its subsidiary GESMALL (mall management) the Group leases and manages the real estate assets in its portfolio, and on behalf of third parties. Wilhelm & Co is present in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Portugal, Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa. The company has been awarded numerous international professional awards including two ICSC European Awards and is nominated for World Best of the Best ICSC. Wilhelm & Co has a proven track record of industry-renowned, award-winning shopping centre projects such as L’esplanade in Louvain-la-Neuve, which was sold to Klépierre, as well as Médiacité in Liège, sold to CBRE Global investors. The Group has a pioneer’s strategy: in Belgium it introduced the environmental standard BREEAM, and started the trend of developing mixed-use projects. Peter Wilhelm became a member of ICSC in 1997, and he has since held a number of strategic positions within the Council. Since January 2014, Peter has chaired the ICSC European Public Affairs Committee (EPAC) which advocates to the European Union for the shopping center industry. He is also a member of the MAPIC Advisory Board.
